Advanced Leadership Program (ALP)

Leadership training and development is a continuous process. The Advanced Leadership Program (ALP) is a continuing, calendar-year program available exclusively to graduates of OSU’s Leadership Development Program (LDP) who want to refresh, enhance, or deepen their leadership skills. Such exclusivity recognizes the training and development commitment already undertaken by these OSU employees.

Getting started

We highly encourage you to work with your supervisor to select a professional development program and courses to complete the program. This certificate program is a calendar-year program, meaning you participate and complete the program every year. We have some participants who have completed more than 25 years in the program!

Participants of ALP must complete 3 Special Opportunities and 8 professional development elective courses, per year. Professional Development can be a combination of online courses in the Learning Management System (LMS) or LinkedIn Learning, external leadership training, and instructor-led classroom sessions.

  • Special Opportunities
    • You choose from up to 6 offered per year. You must attend at least 3 towards completion of your program.
    • Exclusive to ALP participants.
    • Sessions are informal with an opportunity for members to share perspectives with speakers and other campus leaders.
  • Online Courses:
    • Online courses should be leadership courses found in the LMS at talent.okstate.edu. Enter the subject "Leadership" into the search bar in the LMS or LinkedIn Learning to find applicable courses. We recommend printing and keeping test scores on file in case they are needed. The LMS must show the class as completed in order for credit to be given.
    • Up to 5 online courses can be counted towards your electives.
    • Completed online courses must be leadership or management focused. These courses will not be marked by program. You must use the search or browse options and keywords or subjects to find courses with the content.
  • Instructor-led Classroom:
    • Classroom courses can be selected from any Talent Development & Recruitment department-sponsored sessions or events marked as Advanced Leadership Program sessions. If in doubt, contact us at osu-trng@okstate.edu.
    • ALP participants must attend at least 3 instructor-led classroom sessions to complete the electives for the program.
    • You may apply up to 3 CEAT Building Leaders sessions towards your professional development requirement.
    • A course can only be counted one time. All courses used to obtain a certificate of completion cannot be used to complete any other track.
    • Session attendance records will be used for verification purposes. Be sure to sign-in or check-in for any session attended.
  • External Training
    • Must be leadership or management professional development.
    • Must submit date, location, title and the following using the External Training Form:
      • Conference or course agenda or outline, and
      • A description of the class you attended, and
      • Why this course or conference should be counted towards a leadership or management elective credit.
      • Confirmation of attendance. This could include a photo of your conference badge, the session handout from the event, and/or a one page synopsis of what leadership skills you gained from this session.
    • Consideration is at the discretion of Talent Development & Recruitment and may require more documentation to determine if it is leadership or management and professional development focused.
    • Up to 3 external training courses may be counted towards the program. Keep this in mind as you work through your program. You must complete at least 3 classroom/LIVE virtual sessions for the program, as stated above.
  1. Refer to Course Information below, to learn more about how you can find the classes that apply to this program.
  2. Once you have completed the specific number of courses, mail the Completion Form to Talent Development & Recruitment, 201 General Academic Building (GAB) or e-mail to osu-trng@okstate.edu by the program deadline which is in December, every year. This date is reflected on your completion form.
  3. Upon successful completion, you will receive a plaque your first year of completion. Upon annual continuation of the program you will receive a metal plate to add to your plaque to display years of completion.

Please note that we are always improving and adding new sessions to our certificate programs.

Here are some helpful tips to know if a training applies to your program or not:

    1. Select Learning from the drop down menu on the upper right side of the page, or select the Events Calendar widget and follow these steps:

    a. click "Add Subject(s) filters" on the left side of the screen,
    b. click the white box with the black + sign next to "Certificate Programs",
    c. click the blue + sign next to the certificate program you are enrolled in,
    d. click "Done" in the box and the calendar will then show sessions that only apply to your certificate program.

  • ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

If you are participating in a certificate program, it is critical to track your progress in the program. Tracking is important for two reasons: 1.) so you are aware of what you have completed and what you need to complete, and 2.) so you complete the program before your due date.

It is our policy not to extend program due dates as we feel the program time frames allow ample time to complete. If you are enrolled in a curriculum program and do not know your current due date, please contact us at osu-trng@okstate.edu for this information.

  • DISCLAIMER

It is important to keep in mind that this is a calendar year program. You must complete the requirements within the year your are enrolled. We typically offer up to 7 Special Opportunities options throughout the year to help you meet this goal.

Elective courses vary for each certificate program. Elective courses are subject to change throughout the calendar year to provide a range of options.

Courses listed in multiple tracks can only be counted towards the completion of one learning track. You cannot use the same course to meet the course requirements of multiple learning tracks. You may participate in only one certificate program at a time.

  • INCENTIVES

Some colleges/divisions also offer incentive plans for participating in training and continuing education.
