Advanced Leadership Program

Leadership development is an ongoing process. The Advanced Leadership Program (ALP) is a year-long, continuing program available exclusively to graduates of OSU’s Leadership Development Program (LDP). It is designed for employees who wish to refresh, enhance and deepen their leadership skills, recognizing the commitment they have already made to professional development at OSU.

Program Participation

Participants are encouraged to work with their supervisor to select appropriate professional development programs and courses. ALP is a calendar-year certificate program that may be completed annually. Many participants have chosen to continue their involvement for 25 years or more.

ALP participants must complete eight professional development sessions and three Special Opportunities per year.

Professional Development can be a combination of instructor-led classroom sessions offered in the Learning Management System, LinkedIn Learning on-demand modules and external leadership training.

Instructor-Led Classroom Courses

  • You may count eight instructor-led classroom sessions marked with an identified OSU Competency (Teamwork, Stewardship, Professionalism, Service and/or Supervisory).
  • You may only include up to three CEAT Building Leaders classes towards your professional development requirement.
  • You must complete at least three in person/classroom sessions for ALP professional development.
  • Each course may be counted only once and cannot be applied to multiple tracks.
  • Attendance is verified through session records; be sure to sign in or check in for each session attended.

Online Courses

Up to five professional development credits can be earned through LinkedIn Learning.

  • Courses must be within the subjects of either leadership or management and must be at least one hour in length.
  • OSU's LinkedIn Learning page can be accessed using “My useful links” on the Learning Management System homepage

External Trainings

External trainings include conferences, seminars and off-site learning opportunities that enhance your role.

  • Up to three external leadership trainings may count towards professional development.
  • You must complete the approval request form and submit it for review to osu-trng@okstate.edu after you have attended training. Additional information may be requested as needed.
  • External training is eligible for ALP credit based on factors such as presenter expertise, host organization credibility, relevance to the participant’s role and alignment with at least one of OSU’s Core Competencies (Teamwork, Stewardship, Professionalism, Service, and/or Supervisory).

Special Opportunities

These sessions are opportunities for participants to visit and learn more about key campus space and initiatives.

  • At least six Special Opportunity events will be offered each year. Participants must attend at least three Special Opportunities to complete the program.

  • ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

If you are participating in a certificate program, it is critical to track your progress in the program. Tracking is important for two reasons: 1.) so you are aware of what you have completed and what you need to complete, and 2.) so you complete the program before your due date.

It is our policy not to extend program due dates as we feel the program time frames allow ample time to complete. If you are enrolled in a certificate program and do not know your current due date, please contact us at osu-trng@okstate.edu for this information.

  • DISCLAIMER

It is important to keep in mind that this is a calendar year program. You must complete the requirements within the calendar year of enrollment.

Elective courses are subject to change throughout the calendar year to provide a range of options.

Courses listed in multiple tracks can only be counted towards the completion of one certificate program. You cannot use the same course to meet the course requirements of multiple programs. You may participate in only one certificate program at a time.

  • INCENTIVES

Some colleges/divisions also offer incentive plans for participating in training and continuing education.
