Election Stress and Voting Leave
Thursday, October 29, 2026
Ahead of the upcoming election, please familiarize yourself with OSU's policy regarding attendance and leave for voting purposes.
During election years, employees may experience anxiety and stress. There are several strategies you can use to help maintain a positive work environment. Here are some practical tips to reduce tension and maintain focus on work:
- Stay focused on work: Focus on work, especially in shared spaces or meetings. Politely excuse yourself from conversations if they become overwhelming or disruptive.
- Set boundaries for yourself: If coworkers engage in conversations that affect your focus or mood, kindly let them know you’d prefer to stay focused on work.
- Foster a culture of respect: If political discussions do arise, encourage respectful and constructive conversations, recognizing that people may have differing views.
- Stay neutral as a leader: If you're a manager and contentious conversations develop, communicate that people may have differing views and encourage dignity and respect in conversations.
- Employee Assistance Program (EAP): OSU's Employee Assistance Program is available. Consider using that resource or other mental health resources if anxiety is impacting your well-being.
- HR support: HR can provide support when conversations in the workplace create discomfort or conflict. Please contact your Human Resources Consultant or campus HR office.
